Funk, roots, rock, reggae outfit The Floating Bridges’ formation and inception may be based at home on the Sunshine Coast, but diversity, eclecticism and travel is in the blood of these adventurous creatures. Initially meeting in high school, the five eventually came together to form what many would argue to be simply one of the best live bands around.
Swiftly pushing out a couple of EPs in their formative years, these stepping stones quickly came and went, the musicianship sharpened intensely, the lineup became static and the live show became an energetic experience to be well reckoned with. This show has served them well, taking them to stages with the like of John Butler Trio, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Katchafire and The Beautiful Girls as well as relentless killer headline slots and festival appearances nationally at the likes of Caloundra Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and Golden Days amongst many. They garnered triple j airplay and captured the attention of community radio nationally with not only songs like ‘Soul Searcher’ and ‘Foreign Land’, but also for their good vibes aesthetic and observant commentary of social justice.
All paths eventually led to 2012′s release of their debut long player ‘Chasing Sunsets’, easily their proudest recorded moment and an accumulation of all their live experience, songwriting prowess from four of the five lead singers and most importantly a good third-eye glance at the shape of things to come.
Floating Bridges are principal artists at Eumundi ‘Live’, Sunday 24th November.
